During the weekends of September 5-7, 12-13, 19-20, and 26-27, 2009, the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area will sponsor the 10th annual Hudson River Valley Ramble! The Ramble celebrates the trails, the river and the historic and cultural resources of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area. There are guided hikes, bike tours, historic site walks, paddles, festivals and river exploration events being held in communities throughout the Hudson Valley.

The Hudson River Valley Ramble involves partnerships with the NYS DEC Hudson River Estuary Program, local municipalities, State historic sites, National Park Service, local trail groups and other non-profit organizations who participate by hosting Rambles in their communities. Many Ramble events take place at Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area sites and interpret Heritage Area themes, such as the Revolutionary War and the Hudson River School painters. Other events highlight the natural resources of the Hudson River. This year, we are proud to partner with the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Commission for New York Heritage Weekend.

For a full list of events and more information about the Ramble, visit www.hudsonrivervalley.com, or call (518) 473-3835.

The Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area

Acclaimed as "the landscape that defined America" by the National Park Service, the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area was established by Congress in 1996 to recognize, preserve and interpret the nationally significant historical, cultural and natural resources of the region. The Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area extends from Waterford, just north of Albany, to the northern border of New York City.

Explore more than 400 hundred years of history by traveling the valley to see the villages where Dutch and Huguenot immigrants settled, crucial battles of the American Revolution were fought, magnificent landscapes were immortalized by the Hudson River School artists, grand mansions were built along the riverbanks, and the Roosevelts’ dedication to democracy and human rights established a lasting legacy.

Visit www.hudsonrivervalley.com for a wealth of information about the more than 90 designated heritage sites, and upcoming events and celebrations throughout the region.

The Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area is managed by the Hudson River Valley Greenway with technical and financial support from the National Park Service.
