Heritage Weekend Theme Definitions
Military History:
New York State at wartime, including the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 as well as the sites and foundries associated with wartime industry.
Arts and Culture:
Performing arts, literature, painting, sculpture, design and landscapes. This includes both the legacies of artists and performers as well as historic venues.
Corridor of Commerce:
New York’s industries, canals and waterways, and the industrial revolution. Also includes agricultural commerce, production, farmsteads and agritourism.
Innovation:
Inventions, technological advancements, and discoveries and the people that made them.
Architecture:
Architectural and historical significance of the built environment. Includes buildings and structures as well as districts, downtowns, and landscape architecture.
Freedom and Dignity:
Great Americans, social movements, labor history, and the underground railroad.
Traditions and Cultures:
The diverse ethnic heritage of New York. Including Native American heritage, folk traditions, and traditional agricultural and food.
Community Heritage:
Heritage specific to the local community or region.
