The Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Commission is pleased to announce the first annual Hudson River/Champlain Valley Heritage Weekend, to be held on September 12 – 13, 2009. Over 100 museums, historic and architecturally significant places, heritage sites, battlefields, parks, and recreation areas will welcome visitors free or at reduced rates with special events, including tours, performances, reenactments and other great celebrations.
Joan K. Davidson, Chairman of the Quadricentennial, said “Heritage Weekend will be a chance for New Yorkers and visitors from everywhere to enjoy historic homes and institutions in the Champlain and Hudson Valleys, some open especially for this weekend. They’ll sample an array of events, see exhibitions, beautiful buildings and landscapes, and have a chance to hike a trail or take a paddle on the river too!”
Heritage Weekend will partner with the 10th Annual Hudson River Ramble and the Historic House Trust. The Ramble will take place every weekend during September and will highlight the natural and cultural resources of the Hudson River Valley. Both the Ramble and Heritage Weekend are sponsored by the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area. The Historic House Festival will take place on the same weekend as Heritage Weekend, September 12-13. The Historic House Trust operates in tandem with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
